Animal Coalition of Tampa achieves major accomplishment

Tampa, FL – The Animal Coalition of Tampa (ACT) Spay/Neuter Clinic performed its 10,000th spay/neuter surgery on May 6. The honored recipient was Zulu, a Catahoula leopard dog. Zulu received a free surgery, year’s supply of food from Science Diet and a gift basket from Groovy Cats and Dogs.

Zulu’s dad, Troy McCue, was thrilled to receive this honor. Zulu went through one heat cycle, and McCue decided he would never go through that again. He wanted to be able to take her to the dog park without her getting pregnant. “I didn’t think I could afford the surgery until a friend told me about the ACT clinic’s low prices and how much they care,” said McCue. He will also purchase a heartworm test, vaccinations, take home flea and heartworm preventative and pain medicine at ACT’s regular low prices. The ACT Clinic opened its doors in March 2006, and has been performing high quality, low cost surgeries for the community ever since. “We’re very proud to have achieved this. We’ve accomplished a lot in our first two years, but we have a long way to go,” said Linda Hamilton, ACT’s Executive Director.

“Spay/neuter is one of the best things you can do for your pet, and we make the surgery affordable and accessible to everyone who needs it.”

ABOUT ACT: ACT is a non-profit organization. Their primary focus is high volume spay/neuter programs to reduce the high number of companion animals entering local shelters, and in turn, end the tragedy of pet overpopulation in the community. Spay/neuter costs at the ACT clinic are greatly reduced and range from $40 to $95.* For low income Hillsborough County residents who qualify, the cost is merely $10, through the County’s voucher program.*
