Voucher Alert: please link to the site to send your letter to the commissioner
Last year, 16,326 dogs and cats, puppies and kittens, died in our county shelter.
Not because they were sick. Or old. or mean. But simply because there were too many of them.
Worse, this dreadful number is 50% better than it was before Befor the low income assistance program started 5 years ago, we werre killing almost twice that many. In 2005, 29,872 animals died at the shelter from a needle in their heart. And we are heading back there, if we the pubic dont react immediately.
On Tuesday, May 24, 2011, the county susupended the spay/neuter assistance to the poor of Hillsborough County....suspended help to those 15% whose focus to keep food on their own table outshadows their abiity to take care of their pets . To the 15% who will do the right thing with a little financial assistance--and who have proven that the program really does work. Please dont let this program die. Cats and dogs will die with it.

Thanks to Mission Orange, we now have a feral cat database. Registering your colony and their location on this site will help insure they get back home of they are found or impounded by Hillsborough County Animal Services. We encourage you to do so. Its free of charge.
